Built for Integrity: Creating a Classroom Culture that Encourages Academic Integrity
When: Tuesday, October 19, 3:30
- In person - Center for Teaching & Learning, Library 2nd Floor
- Google Meet - meet.google.com/hoh-pqzp-izw
In this session, we will explore how we can create a culture of academic integrity in the classroom. We will begin by exploring situational factors that may influence a student to participate in dishonest actions. From there we will brainstorm pedagogical responses to mitigate these factors and consider how we can incorporate the International Center for Academic Integrity (ICAI) five pillars for academic integrity into the fabric of a course.
Through this discussion, we hope that participants will consider:
- A change in mindset from “faculty must catch cheating when it happens” to “faculty can design assignments and courses in ways that encourage integrity”
- The impact that classroom dynamics, departmental practices, and overall university mindset has on the culture of academic integrity at Fitchburg State.
There will be time for discussion and Q&A.
Handouts and links for additional resources will be provided.
Facilitators: Christine Devine, Jacalyn Kremer, Zachary Miner, and Connie Strittmatter
