Fitchburg State University’s Open and Affordable Education Committee invites you to submit an application for a grant to adopt high quality, no cost, freely accessible resources into an upcoming course. Up to eight (8) $500 grants will be awarded to encourage faculty to adopt no cost textbooks/materials using either Open Educational Resources (OER) or library resources. OER are teaching, learning, and research resources that are free of cost and access barriers, and which also carry legal permission for open use. Grants will also be awarded for replacing commercial textbooks/materials with library online books, journals, and/or films.

Applications are due by May 22, 2020. More details are available in the online application form at

We can think of no better time to adopt open and library resources than right now!  Research shows that in addition to reducing student costs and debt, students who use OER do as well or better than those using traditional materials, since they have easy access to the content starting on day one of the course.

We invite you to learn more and to apply. For more information, contact Connie Strittmatter at or visit the library’s OER guide at
